VPMA Virginia Tech Scholarship
VPMA offers renewable scholarship awards in the spring and fall semesters to undergraduate and graduate students at Virginia Tech whose studies are focused in the field of structural pest management. This scholarship is intended to recognize those superior students whose research and extension activities have benefited (or will benefit) the pest management industry. The objective of the scholarship is to encourage these students to prepare for careers in urban pest management.
Eligibility:
- Applicant must be enrolled at Virginia Tech at the time of the awarding of the scholarship. High school seniors may apply however, they may not receive the award unless they are enrolled at Virginia Tech at the time of the awarding of the scholarship.
- Applicant must be a full-time student.
- Applicant should be enrolled in a program that stresses the technical aspects of structural pest control.
- Complete and submit an application form.
- Submit a current curriculum vita or resume.
- Submit a one-page, double-spaced essay describing how your studies, research and work will contribute to the structural pest management industry in Virginia.
- Submit two letters of recommendation from faculty advisors and/or industry employers. The letters should address the applicant’s work ethic and progress in course work and research. The applicant’s participation in industry training programs and conferences should be included. Letters should also describe which aspects of structural pest management the applicant’s work emphasizes.
Provisions of Award:
- The recipient of the award is required to provide a written progress report describing their recent research, academic or extension activities to the VPMA at least once a semester.
- The recipient is required to give at least one presentation of their research to VPMA industry professionals, to participate as an instructor in at least one training session for the VPMA, or write an article for the PMP Reporter that is technical in nature.
Deadline: Deadlines for submission of complete application packets is January 30 for Spring Scholarships and August 30 for Fall Scholarships. Students will be notified via email by late February for the Spring semester and late September for the Fall semester.
